Agent Persona

A defined identity, tone, scope, and behavioral boundary set that governs how an AI agent presents and conducts itself.

What it is

An Agent Persona is the configuration layer that gives an AI agent its name, communication style, role boundaries, escalation thresholds, and brand voice. It separates the agent's behavioral identity from its underlying model or skills, so the same foundational model can power a formal legal-intake agent and a friendly retail support agent simultaneously. Persona definitions typically live in system prompts and are enforced through guardrails.

Why it matters

Customers interact with agents as brand representatives — an off-brand or inconsistent tone erodes trust quickly. Persona governance helps ensure that as companies deploy more agents, each one behaves consistently with brand standards and regulatory requirements. It also makes it easier to audit why an agent responded a certain way.

Key components

  • tone and voice definition
  • role scope boundaries
  • escalation persona rules

How it connects

Agentforce Builder lets Salesforce admins define an agent's role, description, tone, and topic boundaries without code, and the Trust Layer applies on top of that persona.

Good to know

Treat the persona definition as a living document — test it against adversarial user inputs quarterly, because users will probe edge cases your initial design did not anticipate.
